Installing VLC Player on the Acer Aspire One
I wanted to add a better video player to my AA1, to support more formats, and the general opinion is that VLC is one of the best players out there.
However a number of people have issues installing it on the Acer Aspire One.
Acer have released a version through their site but it is missing a number of supported formats, so it’s bets to install the full version.
I found a blog which outlined the entire procedure split across 2 posts, so I thought that I would post the entire procedure here.
My source of info is
http://macles.blogspot.com/2008/11/installing-vlc-09-on-aspire-one-linux.html
and
http://macles.blogspot.com/2008/09/updated-repositories.html
Here is the Procedure:
- Open a terminal Window. (press Alt & F2, click in the run in terminal box, and the click run)
- Type
sudo yum install fedora-release - Press enter.
- Type wget http://download1.rpmfusion.org/free/fedora/updates/8/i386/rpmfusion-free-release-8-6.noarch.rpm
- Press enter.
- Type sudo rpm -U rpmfusion-free-release-8-6.noarch.rpm
- Press enter
- Type sudo yum install vlc mozilla-vlc
- Press enter
VLC player will now be in the Advanced Menu.
Hope this helps
