How to install Google Earth on the Acer Aspire One

August 19th, 2009 John 5 comments

I like exploring on Google Earth, it’s good for checking out places I have been to, planning future visits and virtual exploring ;-)

Google have made a Linux version but I found it difficult to install and run, it would launch but then close straight away.
How ever I found a solution here, which I’ve incorporated into the following installation procedure.
It does involve installing an earlier version of Google Earth but most of the functionality is there.

1. Click on this link and download Google Earth to your Downloads Directory.
2. In the Files section of the desktop open the My Downloads folder.
3. Go to the File Menu and choose terminal.
4. Type sh GoogleEarthLinux.bin and then press return.

Google Earth will now install and place an icon in the Network section of the Advanced menu.
