Are you taking your Netbook to the World Cup

February 10th, 2010 John No comments

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of WorldCupCompanions. All opinions are 100% mine.

The FIFA World Cup 2010 is held this year and never has personal technology had more of an important role to play, with Netbooks leading the way.

Football is the worlds most popular sport and as South Africa is improving it’s technology infrastructure netbooks can be used to provide a world of information at your finger tips.

This year the United States of America have been drawn with England in the group settings and although England should be able to beat them the States have an excellent chance if brushing Slovinia & Algeria aside. As  MLS continues to grow and develop into one of the worlds top leagues, it’s players have never  had as good a chance to qualifiy from the group stage (odds current 7-2 ) or to even win the tourniment (current odds 66-1), why not use your Netbook to keep a track of the latest World Cup odds.

Using wireless networks you can also blog about your world cup experiences, or to access Fan Forums, you could also use instant messaging you chat with your mates. Why not save money on phone calls by using Skype on  your Netbook to call your family back home.

You could use Google Maps on your Netbook to plan your journey or to find the best bars and restaurants so that you have the best time possible.

Another More Portable Alternative to the Netbook

January 28th, 2010 John No comments

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of Boost Mobile. All opinions are 100% mine.

I’ve previously discussed the benefits that Netbooks bring for the user, how they bring a full desktop computing experience in a small, very affordable package. They provide quick access to, amongst others, Applications, The Internet, email & Social Networking sites.

However there are times when even a Netbook is a little to large to be appropriate, and people are starting to turn to Mobile phones as an alternative for when they are out and about. Mobile Phones are becoming more powerful and one great example is the SANYO Incognito.

The SANYO Incognito SCP6760 is a powerful mobile phone with and integrated 2MP camera with VGA camcorder, so that you can digitally capture your experiences live, and share them with your friends using the Incognito’s Multimedia messaging functionality, or you could upload them to Social Networking sites using the phones enhanced web browser.

The phone also comes supplied with a music and video player, so that you can take your entertainment with you.

The Incognito comes complete with a full QWERTY keyboard so messaging is quick and easy with out the need to use predictive texting, as well as other advanced features including stereo Blutooth and GPS.

So for those times when you can’t get your Netbook out the SANYO Incognito may by the device for you, allowing you to star in touch with friends and family.

Just how portable is the Acer Aspire One – A size comparrison photo with a Panasonic Toughbook

January 15th, 2010 John No comments

One of the strong advantages of the Acer Aspire One over a traditional laptop computer is it’s portability.
Despite it’s reasonable specs and good functionality it’s tiny.

To emphasise this the below picture shows the AA1 sitting on top of a Panasonic F8 Toughbook (which itself is not a large laptop, and considered to be very portable).
As you can see the Acer is significantly smaller. Small is beautiful.

A more portable alternative to the Netbook

January 9th, 2010 John No comments

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of LG Chocolate Touch. All opinions are 100% mine.

People enjoy using Netbooks because they give the user the full computing experience that they are used to on their normal home computers, but in a small, portable and inexpensive package, which makes them great for travelling or as a 2nd computer, and as global mobile Internet availability improves Netbooks are coming into their own.

But what’s the next stage of portability after a Netbook, traditionally mobile phones have offered limited web and connectivity options but times are changing, and a good example of this is the LG Chocolate Touch.

In one handy small device you can access to your contact list, make phone calls, browse the Internet and communicate with all your friends using text, emails or social networking sites. The Touch also has an integrated 3.2 megapixel camera which can take good quality pictures and videos to forward to all your friends, so there’s no more need to always carry your digital camera.

To help you communicate with the world the phone includes a One-touch Social Network button for easy Mobile Blogging to site like Facebook, MySpace & Twitter.

Rather then having to carry your MP3 player around with you the touch can act as your media player, and because it comes with Dolby Mobile technology sound quality the music sounds great. The phone even comes with a Rhythmical Beat utility which makes the phone vibrate in time to the music.

There are times when whipping your netbook out isn’t appropriate, for example on the bus, or you just want to make a quick Twitter post. For those times then the Touch is  a great substitute.

A little bit of fun for all you Dungeon Masters

December 11th, 2009 John No comments

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of Jones Soda. All opinions are 100% mine.

In recent posts I’ve discussed about how to install the MMORPG DOFUS, and the D&D character creator on the the Linux version of the Acer Aspire One, and also talked about running World of WarCraft on the Windows XP version of the Acer Aspire One.

Well here’s some thing for all you Adventure gamers to keep your thirst at bay whilst you are getting stuck into your computer and face to face Roll Playing Dungeons and Dragons Jones Soda.

The Soda’s are themed around flavours associated with the famous Dungeons and Dragons Role Playing Games, with flavours like “Potion of healing”, “sneak attack” and “Dwarven Draught”. I can only imagine what the flavours taste like but perhaps sneak attack has a wicked sour after taste, or Dwarven Draught has a beer like taste.

Perhaps a clever Dungeon Master could use them as props for his adventurers, or perhaps a gamer could set extra atmosphere by using them to quench their thirst whilst playing a game of World of Warcraft or Dungeon and Dragons on-line.

Check out their website to see all their flavours, give them a try to see which what the flavours taste like. With Christmas coming up these may make the perfect gifts for budding Dungeon Masters for their Role Playing Parties.
